Chad Scates Joins FreeWave Technologies as Senior Vice President of Engineering

BOULDER (September 18, 2019)FreeWave Technologies, a leader in long-range wireless and wired edge computing platforms, continues its growth momentum, adding Chad Scates to its executive team as Senior Vice President of Engineering. Scates joins FreeWave from Cardinal Peak, where he was the Senior Vice President of Engineering and Senior Partner.

“Chad brings more than 20 years of technology engineering leadership to FreeWave just as we are pivoting the company from an industrial radio manufacturer to an edge computing and software/cloud solutions company,” said CEO Kirk Byles. “He will play a key role in building out our future technology solutions roadmap.”

Scates managed more than 100 engineers during his tenure at Cardinal Peak, where he spent 15 years as part of the senior management team responsible for business development, project management for key clients and day to day operations. His specialties include Internet of things (IoT), video and audio application development, including mobile application platforms and embedded hardware and software development platforms. Prior to joining Cardinal Peak, Scates contributed his software engineering talents to ION Geophysical and was a Test Engineer for Visual Numerics. Scates earned his Computer Science Engineering degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder and lives in Erie, Colo.

In his new position with FreeWave, he will play an instrumental role in defining and architecting the expansion of the company’s Zum IQ platform.
