FREEWAVE TECHNOLOGIES EXPERT TO DEBUNK MYTHS OF SPREAD SPECTRUM RADIO TECHNOLOGY FOR ELECTRIC POWER APPLICATIONS

FreeWave’s Steve Emrich will discuss wireless telemetry at IEEE’s Power Engineering Society 2007

WHO: Steve Emrich is a business development manager for FreeWave Technologies, Inc., a leading designer and manufacturer of spread spectrum radios. www.freewave.com

Emrich has more than 15 years of technical sales and marketing experience. After earning his BSEE from the University of Iowa in 1991, he joined General Electric’s corporate training program as a technical sales engineer. From his first position as an industrial sales engineer up to his present position as business development executive with FreeWave Technologies, Steve Emrich has been responsible for users in the following markets: gas distribution, electric utility, water/waste water, traffic control, public safety and railroad.

WHAT: “Dispelling the Myths Associated with Spread Spectrum Radio Technology in Electric Power Applications”

Each year, the electric power industry deploys an increasing number of spread spectrum communication solutions. As recently as five years ago, the use of wireless telemetry in electric power SCADA systems was almost exclusively in the licensed radio realm. However, the scarcity of available licensed channels as well as its improved technology has made the spread spectrum radio an increasingly popular choice. With the install base of spread spectrum devices rapidly increasing, there have been a number of myths associated with their use.

The objective of this presentation is to explore these myths, provide a better understanding of how to use spread spectrum technology and show where you can expect to succeed with spread spectrum communication solutions.
