FREEWAVE INTRODUCES WIRELESS SPREAD SPECTRUM RADIO FOR MISSION CRITICAL APPLICATIONS
Newest board-level radio offers increased throughput, speed, reliability and security
BOULDER, Colo., April 16, 2007 – FreeWave Technologies, a leader in reliable, high-throughput spread spectrum radio products and services, today announced the 3400SMR, a new board-level, wireless spread spectrum radio designed specifically to operate in the 3.3-3.5 GHz band.
Developed under a fast track program, the 3400SMR went from concept to prototype in less than five weeks. It currently is available in both board-level and enclosed formats. The 3400SMR provides outstanding performance and versatility in a small footprint that makes it ideally suited for OEM applications. In addition, it offers customers a cost-effective solution by allowing them to incorporate wireless communications into a wide variety of applications.
Key technical specifications include a 20-mile range with clear line-of-site, 350 KHz occupied bandwidth with hopping patterns selectable in 25 MHz zones, single frequency capability, RS232/RS485/RS422 protocols and temperature range of -40 to +75ºC.
“As a customer-driven organization, it is imperative that we respond quickly to the marketplace with the right products at the right time,” said Colin Lippincott, vice president of sales and marketing at FreeWave Technologies. “The newest addition to FreeWave’s superior line of wireless spread spectrum radios falls right in line with this philosophy. The 3400SMR was conceived by customers and delivered by our talented design and production engineers within just a matter of weeks.”
The new FreeWave 3400SMR radio offers software selectable frequencies between 3.3 to 3.5 GHz as well as a number of other features, including:
- Frequency Hopping – important for transmitting highly sensitive data.
- High speed – 115.2 Kbps true throughput (188 Kbps over the air).
- Long range capabilities – up to 20 miles; can be extended through repeaters.
- Extreme reliability through error free communications – data is securely transmitted via 32-bit CRC with user-defined automatic transmission.
- Industrial Grade specifications – 100 percent tested for full performance from -40 to +75ºC.
- Bundled solution – the repeater and simultaneous Slave and Repeater functions are all contained within one radio.
- Low power mode consuming only 2 mA @ 30VDC. A unit in low power mode will wake up, synchronize with the network and accept data in less than 150 milliseconds.
- Best-in-class diagnostics and a separate diagnostic serial connector – that allows for real-time local diagnostics and set-up menu access as well as signal level in dBm and transmit current, and
- The same standard features contained in all FreeWave FGR Series radios, including:
- RS-485/RS-232 Interface
- Noise Immunity
- Secure communications through spread spectrum technology.
The 3400SMR is available now. FreeWave will be adding new features, including 128-Bit AES Encryption, IP connectivity, higher throughput and other great features in the future. For more information, visit FreeWave’s website at www.freewave.com or call the company at (303) 444-3862.
